Everyone knows how expensive renting can be. However, one man has come up with a genius idea — he lives on a cruise ship for 300 days a year because it’s cheaper than renting! Keep reading to find out how, and why he decided to relocate to the Seven Seas.

Living on a Cruise Ship

Ryan Gutridge started living on Royal Caribbean cruise ships back in 2021 after realizing that he could work remotely from the ocean. While most people assume that cruise ships are reserved for world-traveling elders, Gutridge instead spotted a life-changing, cost-effective opportunity to work from anywhere in the world without spending a penny on rent.

Living on a Cruise Ship

Ryan works in the IT sector as a cloud-solution engineer. He started working remotely in 2012. At a certain point, he thought it would be interesting to take his job on a short cruise to test whether he could work with maritime WiFi networks and access elements of his work with heavy security.

He booked two four-night cruises in September 2021 and, even though he liked it, he decided to conduct further research before committing to his new life. In the middle of his calculations, Gutridge realized that the cost of living at sea for 300 nights would be worth almost the same amount of money as paying the rent of his apartment back on land.

Cruise Life Comes With Many Advantages

Living on the cruise ship came with many benefits, from great views to free WiFi and drinks. It allowed Ryan to save money on bills and other expenses. He also shares that he sets a budget every year and manages to save thousands of dollars. The free drinks, fast internet, and many discounts are just a few of the advantages he got from living on Royal Caribbean.

Gutridge did not mention the food, but according to the Royal Caribbean website, the price of the tickets includes ‘most meals onboard.’ His new way of living helps him socialize during lunchtime and gym sessions.
